As we enter a phase where social collaboration is beginning to mature as a concept, and is being increasingly accepted by businesses as a way to help make positive changes to the way they work and the culture they aspire to develop, one of the most fascinating trends in this area is the growth in the number of solutions focused on the more practical, tangible aspects of social tasks and projects
2 Comments - I agree, supporting a more structured collaborative approach need not necessarily mean just embedding existing task and project management tools, and the danger is that these are just shoved in as a siloed app in the collaboration tool. New, innovative approaches are vital, and we're starting to see this through the ability to create and log tasks off the back of other activities within the social collaboration environment, making them an extension of the discussion for example
Now the actual collaboration is probably also done via email and looks something like this: a team member drafts a draft and emails it to the team requesting feedback
Here are the 5 points to consider: 1) Functionality: If you run a professional services company, the business processes you need to automate may include task management, resource assignation to tasks, employee effort tracking, and analytics on the information pertaining to these processes. Additionally, collaboration features are important today for timely communication with customers and employees. 2) Cloud or on-premise: Cloud software is becoming sort of a no-brainer today, but you still may have some very specific business requirements which could compel you to consider on-premise software

You’re tasked with rolling out SharePoint, the company want to do collaboration better. Being a conservative organisation the execs have engaged a very expensive, but respected, consultancy organisation to advise them
Maybe the current practice for project collaboration is the creation of a new network file share – an obvious opportunity for SharePoint!
If you don't have a plan, people will use the commercial tools to improve collaboration, which may not be secure, compliant, or scalable for your business
