I’ve been known to have a little bit of a temper with inanimate objects, such as sloppy sandwiches, chairs that stub my toes and document scanners that don’t scan correctly...After all why can’t the scanner remove staples for us!
For now, let’s just focus on what to look for in a scanner. In order to determine the best scanner for your needs, you must know a number of things about your documents...Most scanners are about 30% slower at 300 dpi (but not all)
My ideal capture design (for most cases) is to have one or two central scanner workstations with dedicated staff members manning them for the workday
Scanner – A Definition: The device that does the actual work of taking a picture of a piece of paper...But in it’s simplest terms the scanner is the device that takes pictures of paper
On the second day of capture, my solution gave to me... 2 high volume production scanners And a capture solution that saved a million dollars annually. On the third day of capture, my solution gave to me... 3 million paper documents (to be scanned) 2 high volume production scanners And a capture solution that saved a million dollars annually. On the fourth day of capture, my solution gave to me... 4 less staffers manually keying data 3 million paper documents (to be scanned) 2 high volume production scanners And a capture solution that saved a million dollars annually. On the fifth day of capture, my solution gave to me... 5 multifunction devices (for distributed scanning) 4 less staffers manually keying data 3 million paper documents (to be scanned) 2 high volume production scanners And a capture solution that saved a million dollars annually. On the sixth day of capture, my solution gave to me... 6 month return on investment 5 multifunction devices (for distributed scanning) 4 less staffers manually keying data 3 million paper documents (to be scanned) 2 high volume production scanners And a capture solution that saved a million dollars annually
Free yourself from the shackles of too much paper. Win a Kodak scanner. Here's how...One messy winner will receive a Kodak Scanmate i1120 Scanner (which can help you get rid of all that paper)
These old terms are just not very descriptive of the needs and capabilities of the document scanning process or of the capabilities of modern scanners. Scanners keep getting cheaper (meaning less expensive) and the built-in image processing abilities continue to get more and more powerful
To help me with this project, Canon sent me 2 scanners to test, a P-215 portable scanner, and a DR-C125 desktop scanner. I originally thought that given the age and condition of the paper and the contents, I’d have to use a flatbed scanner and painstakingly prepare and scan 1 page at a time of thousands
There are a lot of document management systems and scanners that behave in just the same way that my Shmoshiba camcorder does
Ad-hoc image: The simplest systems rely on manual feeding of pages into scanners, MFP devices, or smart phones with manual indexing of fields to locate the document
