Managing Your RIM / IG Career: Six High‑Impact Conversations You Must Have With Your Boss

For RIM and Information Governance professionals, long-term career success depends not only on business value delivered but also on the quality of conversations they have with their managers throughout the year. These conversations are especially crucial for RIM and IG professionals whose work is often invisible, technical, and poorly understood.

This interactive presentation identifies and describes six critical boss-employee conversations that support clearer expectations, stronger performance, career growth, engagement, and visibility beyond the annual review.

Participants will learn when each conversation matters, what business purpose it serves, and how to approach topics such as performance feedback, priorities, development, career aspirations, support needs, and recognition with confidence and professionalism.

The presentation translates these conversations into practical strategies RIM and IG professionals can leverage to strengthen stakeholder relationships, align personal growth with organizational goals, and manage their careers as intentionally as they manage their work projects.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this Community Conversation, participants will be able to:

·       Identify and describe six essential conversations they should have with their managers during the year.

·       Discuss how these regular conversations improve alignment, engagement, and performance.

·       Distinguish between performance, development, and career-planning discussions.
