Hi Sheri,
I believe this is going to be the hottest topic in 2024 and will catch many people by surprise. This is due to how Microsoft is rolling this feature out in M365, and how many users already have access to this functionality. This will be the first real AI business use case for many, and arguably the most popular.
There is much work to be done. The analogy is very much like painting a room. Everyone knows prep is at least half the work, and there is much preparation required.
- Data Access
- Digitization of paper documents, indexing, OCR, and ICR to ensure this historical data is added to the overall data set
- Migration of data- Is the data managed cohesively? File shares, SharePoint sites, isolated servers, previous mergers- all data needs to be cohesively managed
- Data Quality
- ROT (redundant, obsolete, and trivial) data. There are tools that can help, but this is not a small effort.
- Old versions, or multiple versions of key data will lead to inaccurate, inefficient, and poor results.
- Data Security
- Risk assessment and access.
- What data needs to be isolated from CoPilot? HR? Financials? PII? How is this segmented and accessible for the appropriate stakeholders?
M365 has a few included capabilities, and enhanced options such as Purview. Licensing needs should be addressed (E3, G3, E5, G5). Third party tools such as AvePoint or ShareGate might also be helpful. That said, no tool solves this problem automagically, so I would encourage most organizations to engage with professional services organizations who are able to provide personalized guidance.
