The AIIM Oil and Gas SIG Leadership group are exploring an opportunity to publish a list of Oil and Gas specific IM Standards and Guidelines on the AIIM SIG website. I have attached a list of generic IM standards for your perusal. Good start! I know that SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) has a collection of papers that have guidelines and best practices for information management in our industry. For example:

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is currently attracting some attention within the oil and gas industry in the UK. Based on PAS1192.2 (with PAS1192.3 on the way), BIM offers a standard approach to managing information throughout the life-cycle of an asset.

The UK government has already mandated that all public construction projects have to implement BIM by 2016 based on demonstrable cost savings of up to 20%.

Discussions are currently underway between the IM Energy Forum in Aberdeen and the BIM Task Group about the possibility of establishing a 'BIM Oil and Gas Group'.
