Hello and greetings from San Diego!
Earlier today the annual AIIM conference wrapped up - after three days of sessions, demonstrations and networking. While our Special Interest Group (SIG) did not have a meeting of our own, I did meet quite a number of SIG members. It is always great to be able to meet in person, even just to shake hands and put a face to a name!
I will share more later, but I wanted to let you know three things about the AIIM conference:
1. Our very own Neale Stidolph (Lockheed Martin) hosted a presentation entitled "What the oil & gas industry can tell you about documents and data". The audience (60+ attendees) was a mix of oil & gas and other industries. I will work with Neale to set up a webinar based on his presentation for our SIG;
2. The concept of a SIG is new to AIIM, but is considered to be very powerful. At the AIIM Leadership Summit I presented our SIG concept, plans and challenges to the AIIM board members and AIIM Chapter leaders. The idea of creating a virtual community around an industry was welcomed and there are plans for other SIGs as well. We have a lot of support from AIIM management who want us to grow & succeed;
3. Word of mouth is a great way to increase our SIG membership! During the conference, I was regularly approached by people in our industry or who knew someone in our industry that should be a member of our SIG. So do spread the word about our SIG in your own organisation and network.
More reporting from the AIIM conference will follow once I have been able to review and summarize my notes. For now, I want to point you to the latest AIIM white paper "Content Management 2020: thinking beyond ECM (Enterprise Content Management)" (http://www.aiim.org/Research-and-Publications/Research/AIIM-White-Papers/ELC-ContentManagement2020). A lot of what was discussed during the conference is framed in this excellent white paper.
Best regards,
Dennie Heye
