Getting to Know Me in a “Non-Bio” Way

Please see above for my professional background. We were asked to provide a more personal view:

I’ve always been interested and involved in Records Management ("RM"). As electronic records/data proliferated, my interest in ERM grew. I have a holistic view of information governance that includes managing records in all media and formats throughout the information life-cycle and takrd into account all values and requirements of information.  My view of a "record" is broad - including all information and data that evidences business activity (ISO 15489). I believe in a priorities based approach. My Masters Degree had an electronic database records focus and my PhD coursework (didn't finish the degree) – was on electronic records management policy development.

I have a strong interdisciplinary approach to RM that includes both aligned and complementary fields. The aligned fields include, e.g., privacy, information security, data and information management, ECM, information science, information systems, technology and archives. Complimentary fields include, e.g., business management, law, risk management and finance. I’ve found that all applicable perspectives are needed to create and implement a defensible and cost-effective RM program that reduces risk and enhances opportunity. I believe that effective collaboration is critical.

I’m married to Alan, who was the Executive Director of several substantial social service agencies. We have 3 terrific grown children and their spouses and wonderful twin grandtoddlers.

We’re an international family.  Alan is from South Africa, our sons-in-law are from Brazil and Israel (respectively) and our daughter-in-law’s family is from Columbia and Syria. Alan and I lived together in Israel and South Africa and have friends and family in both places.

I look forward to interacting with you through this ERM expert blog on many ERM topics.

Regards,

Susan
