Your Personal E2.0 Fitness and Adoption

Will your latest shake weight end up in a corner with the ab roller that you purchased 10 years ago?

In the world of Enterprise 2.0 we have a plethora of tools that we can employ to support our organizations, but frequently we find a significant lag in their adoption.  There are many reasons as to why, but perhaps our own pesonal E2 fitness plays a larger role than we may think.  Just as with the physical world, what we practice is perhaps even more important than what we preach.

It is easy to get caught up in a hype cycle about a particular technology, but if you - the evangilist - is not themselves using product, do not expect that others will embrace your suggested path.  If we are not making use of tools that we are proposing - what weight does our opinion carry?

Would you rather take a fitness class from Jilian Michaels or Chris Farley?

Thankfully some simple guidelines can be followed that not only improve our personal E2 fitness, but also validate our assumptions about our particular technology platform and its value to our business.  This will ensure that your E2 investment does not end up the like a dusty ab roller in a lonely corner.

Stepping up Your E2 Fitness

  1. Learn Before you Evangilize - users within your organization will attempt to use the tools that you are proposing, so make sure to be knowledge enough to set the right expectations and outline the best ways in which they can be used to support their efforts.
  2. Make it a Habbit - if you are doing project-based collaboration with peers, do not send project documents within an email to others.  Leverage a workspace capability to collaborate around a shared source of the truth on project assets.
  3. Find Shared Passion - look for individuals who "get" the benefits of E2 and are looking to make use of them within their lines of business.  Success is the best marketing tool - if others are able to enable their part of the organization to do business more efficiently, others will follow.  A solid, internal use case is one of the most powerful tools to drive adoption.

Hopefully the above tips can give your organization a new perspective on how a concerted effort around monitoring one's own personal E2 fitness is so important to driving overall E2 adoption within your enterprise.
