Just a few days into November, and my local Target Store has shifted into a Winter Wonderland…it’s that time of year again. The holiday shopping season is here and Black Friday is quickly approaching. It is also time for me to start thinking about what to put under the tree for my daughters this year. Being the tech guy that I am, I prefer they get something innovative, yet practical.
Maybe a printer?
Before jumping to the conclusion that my girls might not fully appreciate the power of printing, let’s talk about the technology that many of today’s printers have to offer. Scanning, blue tooth, wireless, WiFi, rapid output, LCD touch screens, autoduplexers, fax and email capabilities, memory card readers and disk drives just to name a few. Printers are no longer used just to print, and we’ve come a long way from the 1980s dot matrix printer.
The new functions and capabilities that printers offer open up a whole new world for document capture. Not only can printers’ bluetooth and WiFi capabilities take us to the cloud, their LCD touch screens streamline workflow. I will admit that this may not be something that my daughters would be particularly interested in (yet!), but I am. My guess is that you are too.
While having a touch screen display on your printer may not appear to be cutting edge technology, the function has certainly evolved. The touch screen and print preview function on a printer can be used to easily access and manage documents. It allows for the simple creation of electronic copies of paper documents; enabling easy distribution, efficient storing, and electronic organization.
Additionally, the touch screen on a printer ultimately streamlines workflow. By converting paper documents into digital assets on the printer display, we create a more efficient information exchange by capturing, classifying, indexing and sending documents digitally.
Now that I have thought about it, I guess its back to square one for my daughters’ gift, because maybe a printer is a more appropriate gift for someone like, myself? Hint-hint, nudge-nudge, wink-wink.
