As many of you know AIIM has put together a virtual event focusing on social business to be held on September 8, 2011 (see the details at
http://www.aiim.org/events/soe-conference). I'd like to provide some background on how the event came together.
We wanted to put together an event that was practical, actionable, and focused while at the same time ensuring that the speakers were the highest caliber in terms of both their expertise and their ability to present and convey their ideas effectively. So we started with a call for proposals and got some very good sessions out of that. We also reached out to a number of practitioners across a variety of industry sectors and sizes of organization.
We also spoke with a number of thought leaders to provide opening and closing keynotes and are pleased to include Andrew McAfee, David Weinberger, and Debra Logan in the event.
And we reached out to the vendor community to get their take on the topic as well - as vendors developing capabilities in the space and whose customers are trying to make it work and in many instances as large organizations themselves.
Once we got the submissions in, reviewed, and selected, we grouped them into three tracks. The first track, Strategies, features presentations on how to build a successful social business strategy, ROI and business impact, and the state of social business in 2011. The next track, Use Cases, really focuses on how end user practitioners have made social business a reality for their organizations, including the U.S. Department of Justice, Nokia, Deutsche Bank, and others. The third track, Governance, provides specific sessions that address AIIM's traditional "sweet spot", information management. It includes sessions on creating social media policies, mobile capture, and how to get IT and RM to see the value of social business technologies and how to manage them appropriately.
We're currently working with the host provider to get the technology set up for the virtual conference. Some of the sessions will be delivered live, while others will be "pre-recorded". But we have built in time for Q&A after every session.
Attendees will be able to choose from more than 20 sessions on a variety of topics across the three tracks. In addition, all the sessions will be recorded and available on-demand for 30 days after the end of the event.
The overall goal in putting this together was to create an event that I'd be willing to pay to attend myself, and at $85 (I'm still a paid Professional member of AIIM) I think this would be a bargain at 2-3x the cost. You simply will not find this caliber of content anywhere else at anywhere near the cost, and since it's virtual, you don't even have to worry about travel costs or finding wifi and a power outlet at the event. Please join us on September 8 for this superlative event.
