Lisa Desautels owns and runs Graphic Imaging Services, a scanning service provider and has extensive knowledge of both large-format scanning and GIS. She’s been kind enough to share her expertise on large-format scanning in this community, and previously in print for AIIM’s various magazines. She also enjoys sending the occasional invitation to Vegas events that I can’t make.
Duhon: What do you do and how did you get there?
Desautels: Records Management with an expertise in large documents such a CAD and GIS. I began selling scanners for a company that sold AutoCAD and ESRI software and realized there was a need for Document Imaging for this vertical market
Duhon: What was your best day at work? Worst?
Desautels: Best Day was when a large casino was able to utilize our final product and avoid fines. Worst Day was staying up all night and re-indexing drawings that data entry had done incorrectly.
Duhon: What are you proudest of?
Desautels: Hoover DAM. It was as big of a challenge to secure the records as it was to build the dam. Lot's of unknowns. I learned so much on this project too. We scanned all the engineering drawings, indexed, and did some psychic indexing into an application they are STILL using today.
Duhon: What is your No. 1. goal today—and what is your greatest content-related challenge?
Desautels: My goal is to get any organization with engineering drawings to secure them before they are lost, stolen, or damaged. While many are created digitally, so often there is only the paper copy as a reference. With today's hostile environment laced with terrorism, natural disaster, and the need for safety, I can't help but be passionate about the fact that getting information digital and secured will impact lives.
Duhon: Why do you consider yourself an information professional?
Desautels: My understanding of the unique needs of Content Mangement for the AEC Industry provides the knowledge and experience that help make a project successful.
Just for fun:
Duhon: What are your three favorite websites?
Desautels: Too many to choose from
Duhon: What are the three greatest books ever written—and what’s on your nightstand today?
Desautels: Shopping catelogs ;-)
Duhon: What are the three greatest movies of all time—and what’s the last one you’ve seen?
Desautels: Hmmm, love watching True Lies. Latest movie was the Hunger Games and Safe House
Duhon: What was your first concert—and what are the three greatest songs on your iPod?
Desautels: First concert was Van Halen in 1980, Top three songs on my iPod are Pink-Glitter in the Air, Andre Bocelli- Con te Partiro (Theme for Bellagio Hotel in Vegas), Sade-Smooth Operator.
