With a fairly equal mix of excitement, pleasure, and fatigue; we are happy to announce that our fourth online community is now live. The AIIM SharePoint Community is, as many of you will already be familiar with, comprised of four interlocking elements: our roster of expert bloggers, a wiki for the creation of best practices, discussion threads, and a Buyer’s Guide, initially focused on consultants and systems integrators in the SharePoint world.
Before introducing our bloggers and a few more details of the SharePoint Community, I’d like to take a moment to thank all of you for reading and for participating in our (and by “our,” I don’t mean just AIIM) communities. It’s only been just over four months and I’ve had the pleasure to interact with some of the best folks in Enterprise 2.0, Electronic Records Management, Capture, and, now, SharePoint. I’ve learned a lot, forgotten a little, and I hope you’ve all done the same (well, not the forgetting part). I’m looking forward to the continued interaction amongst and between the communities as we all continue to learn together.
Also, don’t forget to vote for your favorite Messiest Desk entry. Look over to the bottom left for details.
The SharePoint Community
I’m from Louisiana, and as my fellow southerners can relate to, I’ve compared the growth of SharePoint to that of Kudzu (a non-native vine that covers everything in its path, drive along a stretch of highway just about anywhere below the Mason-Dixon and you’ll see what I’m talking about). The point is, SharePoint has exploded. Because it’s easy to set up, companies too often have multiple, overlapping installs – when they even know about its use at all.
Our goal with the new community is not to give you a detailed bits and bytes overview of how to roll-out SharePoint. The goal is to provide you with the necessary context of when SharePoint can work for your organization; when it won’t; governance issues; ROI issues; strategic planning issues; etc. SharePoint is NOT a simple fix for your collaboration, document management, or intranet issues; nor is it an Enterprise Content Management strategy by itself.
Just like any other tool, you need to use it for the right task. This community will help you match tool to task.
