Name:
Guy Mason
Position:
City and County Records Manager
Company: City and County of Denver

Where do you live in? Denver, Colorado

How long have you worked in information management? 10 years

What does your work entail? Do you have company support? How are you helping drive the goals of your office through your work? I manage the retention and storage policies and coordination of records for all city and county agencies, everything from the airport to the mountain parks. There is increasing support especially around privacy and the reduction of electronic ROT, but it’s still difficult to get support to inventory and clean up paper and older unknown information. By bringing together coordinators in every agency, improving policies, and better using technology we’re reducing liabilities and making it easier to use and find useful information.

What has been the biggest success in your career in information management? Combining the inventories and retention management of physical and some electronic records for multiple agencies enabled a more cohesive approach to managing records.

What’s your current biggest work challenge?

It’s not too difficult to show value in improving information inventories but it’s difficult to find the resources to improve them.

What does Intelligent Information Management mean to you?

Knowing what information we have, where we have it, what it’s used for, and why we have it so that we can make the best use of it and not keep information that we don’t need.

What are the top 3 things you are looking to get from your AIIM membership? Access to the latest and best practices, networking, and a community of practice.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to in 2022? A returned focus to the physical records that we haven’t seen in over a year.

What is your end goal and how do you think we can help you achieve it?  Improving the value of intelligent information management and information governance in large organizations.

As an AIIM member, can you share how AIIM’s membership benefits helped you with your career?

Being a certified information professional shows my abilities and experience with information management are at least at an industry benchmark that is accepted in many industries and organizations. Having the opportunity to share my experiences with other AIIM members and present at AIIM events shows that I’m a respected member of the information management community.
