This presentation explores the past, present, and future of audit and compliance. At the same, it shares back-to-basic practices that every practitioner can use to build and improve their audit and compliance function today. This presentation also shares four simple models that will allow you to perform your own do-it-yourself “mini-audits” (or litmus tests, if you will) to assess the current effective of your information and documentation practices. In this presentation, Adrienne Bellehumeur marries her many years on the ground (and in the trenches) running internal controls audit programs through her firm Risk Oversight with her leading work in writing, training, and speaking about documentation best practices.

    • What practitioners need to know to build audit, compliance, and internal control programs
    • How audit and compliance are evolving and what is possible in the brave new world of digital transformation
    • What is the hype and where audit and compliance are falling short when it comes to digital transformation and the roadblocks in the way
    • Four "do-it-yourself" frameworks that practitioners can use to assess and conduct “mini audits” of their information assets today

  • Considering AI – Critical Information for IG Professionals

    Nov 3, 10:45 - 12:45 (CT)

Join your fellow AIIM Southwest members on November 3 at 11 AM for an informative session with Glen Hilford and Claudette Llloyd from Access Sciences. They will present an overview of Artificial Intelligence, including the AI techniques that are most applicable to Information Governance.

Virtually overnight, AI has become the hottest thing on the planet. It can dazzle us with its near-mystical capabilities and frustrate us as it attempts to anticipate our every need. Its evangelists insist that it will make the world a better place. But just what is it? What is this thing we call AI?

Paradigm shifts are hard, and often full of surprises. The tectonic shift that AI imposes only magnifies these challenges. Are we prepared to face them? Are we equipped with the knowledge and forethought to wager our organization’s money, time, people, energy, organizational stability, and reputation on AI?

This session presents an overview of Artificial Intelligence, the AI techniques that apply to most mainstream organizations, and those that are most applicable to IG. They illustrate one of these techniques with a real-world case study of an AI knowledge graph that uses semantics to define taxonomies and ontologies that model and connect business information.

Along the way, they will discuss the benefits, risks, and surprises frequently encountered in the application of AI as it relates to information management and governance. They wrap up by discussing critical questions organizations should ask when considering an AI investment.

Glen began working with AI in the mid-90s, quickly recognizing its value and unique information governance needs. In 2007, after successful AI implementations at two Fortune 500 companies, he joined Access Sciences to start its technology services practice with a focus on information management and governance. Today, he focuses on corporate growth and leads Access Sciences’ AI practice.

Over the past 15 years, Glen has spoken at numerous events hosted by ARMA International, ARMA chapters including Houston, San Antonio, The Woodlands, Tulsa, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, AIIM International, Enterprise Data World, Microsoft Global Energy Forum, Microsoft / SAP / OpenText Triumvirate Tour, and the University of Houston.

Glen earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Houston. In his spare time, you can find him woodworking, traveling, supporting Blessings in a Backpack and College Young Life, and honing his oenophile skills.

Claudette is passionate about developing systems, processes, and tools to organize, access, and manage information assets. She loves to approach complex processes and systems, and develop simple solutions to extract value and insight from unstructured data and digital content.

In her role as a Principal Consultant, Claudette has spoken at various events hosted by ARMA International, ARMA Houston, the Special Libraries Association’s Annual Conference, Enterprise Data World and the Texas Department of Information Services

Today, Claudette is Access Sciences’ resident expert on AI knowledge graphs.

The event begins at 10:45 AM with networking with other attendees. The program will start at 11:00 AM.

  • Insider Risk: Top Tips to Protecting your Organization's Information from the Inside Out

    Mar 8, 02:00 - 03:00 (ET)

Information governance and data protection practices have changed significantly in the past few years, as the digital landscape continues to grow. External threats and cyber hacks may capture the news cycle, but risks from within the organization can be just as prevalent and harmful. Indeed, according to research from Microsoft, 20% of security breaches are due to internal actors. And now, with millions of people working remotely, data is being created, accessed, shared, and stored outside of the traditional borders of the enterprise. As a result, the risk of employees disclosing private or sensitive content – either inadvertently or maliciously – cannot be overlooked.

AIIM often says intelligent information management is much more than managing risk and compliance, but when and where you DO need to keep your eye on risk, what important aspects should demand your attention?

This webinar will focus on why traditional ways of identifying and mitigating risks simply don’t measure up and how an effective and holistic approach includes the right people, processes, and tools. We’ll explore:

    • What Insider Risk is and why it is something we should not overlook.
    • Which elements best characterize success in an insider risk program.
    • How we should design our programs to grow and advance in the face of increasing risk.
    • And...tools and approaches that can help us conduct an insider risk assessment.

Join us for another important and thought-leading discussion with our guest experts from Microsoft.

This webinar is approved for 1.0 hour of CIP Maintenance Credits.

*In exchange for free access to this event, you acknowledge that AIIM will use your contact information for the purpose of following up on your interest in this topic and will process your personal data in a manner consistent with AIIM's Privacy Policy.

  • Not All Accessible Documents Are Usable

    Mar 9, 01:00 - 02:00 (ET)

This session will explore the challenges and opportunities related to making system generated, high-volume documents, otherwise known as “transactional documents”, accessible at scale. Workflows to remediate transactional documents, which are highly variable from a data perspective, but also uniform from a layout perspective – i.e., bank statements, explanations of benefits, invoices, pay stubs, transcripts, tuition bills, tax bills, etc. – are ideal candidates for automated remediation and quality assurance.

In addition to presenting a real-world enterprise use case for high-volume transactional document remediation, the session will also compare different approaches to automated remediation and their respective impacts on both compliance and usability.

The session will also outline three distinct ways in which automated testing at scale can help ensure compliance and usability.

    AI assisted remediation template development
    Automated validation workflows
Automated regression testing of remediation templates

Finally, the session will share best practices that the Crawford Technologies’ organization has learned in working with enterprises and large organizations to enable automated high-volume transactional document remediation at scale.

  • AIIM True North Webinar -- Is Your Change Strategy Backward? – Inverting the Model Might Be the Bett

    Mar 22, 12:30 - 13:30 (ET)

AIIM True North would like to invite you to a webinar on March 22, 2023 at 12:30 PM ET.  The presentation will discuss a new approach to sustainable change management. You can register here. This webinar is eligible for 1 CEU. Please complete the CIP Certification Maintenance Form here.

Title: Is Your Change Strategy Backward? – Inverting the Model Might Be the Better Path!

Description: When most of us talk about “change management projects,” we think of them as “one-and-done” initiatives. That might have been the case in the past, but today –with the capabilities of technology and the ever-changing demands of the global economy– change is a state of being. For innovation and organizational change to be successful, we need to recognize that change management isn’t reserved just for Change Managers. It’s everyone’s job to have the strategies, tactics, skills, and frameworks for making change happen. Change management has traditionally been organized around the assumption that we implement a big solution (e.g., system, framework, process, a new way of working) and then change behaviors (i.e., skills, disciplines, habits) afterward. But what if it is really the other way around? What if changing people should in fact come first? This presentation explores what change management is in practice today and reimagines what it could be tomorrow too. The session shares tactical, everyday change management practices to improve your behavior and that of your organization and team, along with key learnings.

    Date: Wednesday, March 22, 2023
Time: 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM ET

Learning Objectives: By attending this session, you will learn:

    • The 24-HOUR Rule, which says you have to reprocess, rewrite, or rethink information in 24 hours to boost your productivity and ability to action information
    • Groundhog Trap, which uses techniques to stop runaround conversations about future projects or past decisions to unstick projects and drive momentum
    • Information Management 101 Conundrum, principles for overcoming the dissonance between how we handle information today vs. how we access it in the future.
    • Six Steps of Dynamic Documentation, which is about using documentation as a problem-solving approach to drive innovation, leadership, and change

Speaker's Bio: Adrienne Bellehumeur is Director and Co-owner of Risk Oversight, a leading Canadian firm specializing in governance, risk and compliance, internal audit, SOX, and CSOX programs. She is also the founder of Bellehumeur Co., where she consults, speaks, trains, and writes on documentation and workflow best practices. In her 17 years as a business owner and consultant, she has developed a practice she calls “Dynamic Documentation” that helps teams, projects, and organizations solve their problems and achieve their goals. Pick any important process, and you can bet that there is at least one document at the heart of the workflow. • AIIM+ Meeting the Challenge: Privacy-Enabling Your Records Retention Schedule

    Mar 28, 13:00 - 13:45 (ET)

Many organizations are realizing that privacy requirements - including not retaining personal information any longer than necessary - are dictating how the organization deals with data.

These privacy requirements are often in direct conflict with record retention requirements. Furthermore, some organizations want to create a “data retention policy,” when they already have a records retention schedule. Conflicting requirements and policies can create trouble for both privacy and records programs.

Join Kerry Childe, Esq., CIPP/US, and Mark Diamond from Contoural as we will discuss how to privacy-enable your records retention schedule. Topics will include merging privacy and records requirements into a single schedule, resolving privacy deletion and record retention conflicts, and how establishing data retention business purposes "no longer than necessary."

Join us for what is certain to be a lively discussion.
