Where do you live in?
I live in the city of Nassau, on the island of New Providence which is in The Bahamas
How long have you worked in information management?
I have work in information management for 26 years
What does your work entail? Do you have company support? How are you helping drive the goals of your office through your work?
It entails working closely and proactively with departments or units and assisting them with the adoption of the records management processes in accordance with established policies and guidelines. There is also a supervisory element for document conversion projects in addition to working with committees such as business continuity and vital records. I also assist with monitoring and reporting for records management issues, investigating and responding to user requests, Offsite storage and training in relation to records management.
Over the years organizational support has increased. Initially there was no dedicated unit for Records Management but one was established in 2013. Senior management is continuing to show its support for the proper management of its corporate information.
I try to drive the goals of my office by keeping abreast of developments in the profession in order to be able to address the general issues related to our digital transformation initiatives and to encourage more collaborative team efforts involving users and specialists such as IT, Security, Legal and Audit in order to bring about transformation and meaningful changes for the organisation.
What has been the biggest success in your career in information management?
I would say it was seeing the transformation resulting from the document conversion project for one of our heavily paper based departments. Efficiencies were realized in time, space savings and costs. In addition, ongoing organization of our Offsite storage facility has also been a success.
What’s your current biggest work challenge?
I would have to say moving the organization towards an enterprise wide approach in respect of information management.
You’ve been a champion of AIIM at the Central Bank of The Bahamas—how has the bank leveraged their AIIM membership?
Currently, I feel, there is much more we can leverage. At this time, use of the toolkits, webinars and online community access, as well as the Conference and training courses have been utilized.
What does Intelligent Information Management mean to you as a Certified Information Professional?
Intelligent Information Management means making the most of information resources though the use of innovative tools and techniques. It goes beyond just capturing and storing your data but analyzing and gaining more predictive insight into corporate behavior that can generate benefits. Artificial Intelligence, block chain and other robotic tools have emerged to make this possible.
The holidays are coming up, any special plans?
Wow, I love holidays! In the Bahamas, we celebrate The Christmas season to the max! Families and friend get together and celebrate in grand style. We go to church, enjoy family gatherings, parties, and best of all, the Junkanoo Parades held on Boxing Day and New Year’s morning. I look forward to it all. Can’t wait!
