AIIM+ Members - Advancing Intelligent Information Management (IIM): A BIPOC Perspective

When:  May 20, 2025 from 13:00 to 14:00 (ET)
Associated with  AIIM Open Forum

This one-hour presentation explores the evolving landscape of Intelligent Information Management (IIM), emphasizing the challenges and opportunities for BIPOC professionals in the field. The session provides insights into IIM trends, barriers to entry, and strategies for success.

The presentation begins with an overview of IIM, highlighting its five key components—Capture, Automate, Extract, Manage, and Store—and its role in improving efficiency, compliance, and decision-making. It then examines the latest trends in IIM, including the integration of AI, automation, cloud-based records management, and cybersecurity measures.

A key focus of the discussion is BIPOC representation in IIM, supported by demographic data from Zippia (2024). It reveals disparities in racial and gender diversity, with Black and Hispanic professionals underrepresented in leadership roles. The presentation identifies barriers to entry, such as limited mentorship opportunities, systemic biases in hiring and promotion, and a lack of access to industry networks.

To address these challenges, the session outlines strategies for BIPOC professionals to advance in IIM, including:

- Mentorship and networking through AIIM BIPOC and industry events.

- Skill development via certifications such as AIIM CIP and PMP.

- Advocating for inclusive hiring and leadership pathways.

The session concludes with best practices in records management, emphasizing metadata governance, regulatory compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, NARA), and the use of AI in automation. A call to action encourages participants to engage with professional organizations, invest in continuous learning, and mentor future generations of BIPOC professionals.

The presentation ends with an interactive Q&A session, reinforcing key takeaways and inspiring participants to take an active role in shaping the future of IIM.
