IT, data management, and RIM all use words like "governance" and "metadata," but they don't always mean the same thing. A data architect's "record" isn't a records manager's "record." "Retention" means something different to legal than it does to a database admin. Those small mismatches add up: projects stall while teams sort out what they actually agreed to, systems get built in parallel because nobody realized they were solving the same problem, and compliance gaps show up because one team assumed another had it covered.
Candace McCabe (data management/IT) and Amanda Rush (information management) sit down to talk about where their vocabularies actually diverge, the real costs when that goes unnoticed, and what it takes to get IT, data, and RIM working from the same playbook instead of just nodding along to the same words.
