Globe of world flags

Later this month, document and content management subject experts from approximately 14 countries will gather in Hangzhou, China for a week of meetings to continue the development of document and content management standards to improve the industry. With organizations handling mostly electronic information and the almost daily data breaches that take place, the work of these experts is important.  The experts will be discussing:

The outcome of this meeting will be to move the draft document to the next step in the process getting it closer to publication.
    • ISO/DTR 22957, Document management – Analysis, selection and implementation of electronic document management systems (EDMS) – This document was approved for publication. The working group will review the results.

  • Working Group 8, PDF specification will be meeting for a day and a half to review and discuss study group reports on potentially new features for the PDF 2.0 standard. On the agenda, the working group will be discussing whether to publish a dated revision or errata for the PDF 2.0 standard ISO 32000-2. The working group will be working on the scope of the dated revision or errata for PDF 2.0. A review of the comments received from the ballot for ISO/CD 22550, Document management – AFP interchange for PDF. AFP, Advanced Function Presentation is beneficial for large organizations that produce variable data printing information.
  • Working Group 7, PDF/Engineering will be meeting for a half day to discuss the results of a study group on the potential development of an errata for the Product Representation Compact (PRC) standard.
  • Working Group 5, PDF/Archives will be meeting for a half day as well as a few hours with the Working Group 7 for PDF/Engineering. The joint meeting is to allow for the transfer of information between the engineering experts and the archival experts since the archival requirements and features will be included in the PDF/A-4 draft rather than in the PDF/E draft. The PDF/A-4 draft was out for ballot and received comments that will be discussed during the meeting.

If you would like to be involved in the development of any of these standards, please feel free to contact Betsy Fanning at betsy.fanning@3dpdfconsortium.org. You do not necessarily need to be technical to participate. We welcome end users who are willing to share how the technology is and can be best used in various situations.

Each of these projects is supported by a committee in the United States. If you would like to help with the development of any of these standard or other documents such as white papers, checklists, etc., contact Betsy at the address above.

A summary of the outcomes from the meetings will be posted in May 2018 after the meetings have concluded.
